The village Kalapalayam South is situated 2 kilometers east from the Chennai National Highway and 30 kilometers away from Trichirapalli Junction. There are 70 families with a total population of 350 people living in tiled or thatched roof homes. Few live in concrete houses. The villager’s employment is dependent on field work (dry lands) availability. When enough rains come, villagers work an average of 60 days per year. Other don’t have work in their village. Some go to the cities, taking up construction labor and few take up labor in the nearby factories. The village doesn’t have any immediate access to medical, shopping and other services. The transport is available once every two hours through the government provided bus.

They have only one government provided public tap, which is the only source of drinking water to the entire community. They receive very little water as the water is distributed through the tap for just twenty minutes each morning. The villagers have to purchase bottled water or walk to distant places and fetch water from open wells in the fields. The whole village has appealed to DPWA to install a deep bore well with hand pump in their village.

We're just getting started, check back soon!

Project Type

A borehole well reaches clean water stored deep underground. We drill down through soil and rock to groundwater that natural layers have already filtered, then build a platform and fit a handpump so families can draw water up close to home. It is a safe, protected source that replaces long walks to open water, and with your partnership it is cared for long after it is installed.
