Our partner in the field reports...

PERUGANUR is a small village in Thatheiyankarpettai Block of Trichy
district having 50 families of backward community people. Most of them
are landless agricultural laborers. They live in mud walled and thatched
huts and some live in concrete and tiled houses. There is no drinking
water facility in their area. There is an overhead water tank in the
area where the caste people live. But as these 50 families live in the
tail end of the village, no public taps are provided to these families
for consumption of drinking water. These families draw water from the
nearby lake which is highly polluted and unsafe. They fall sick owing to
consumption of the un-cleaned water from the lake. On hearing the
services of Depressed People’s Welfare Association,-the whole village
community have approached DPWA, hence we appeal to provide one deep bore
well with hand pump which will help these 50 families with a total
population of 250 to have access to safe and protected drinking water
all through the day.

Well Dedication Report

This village is comprised of 250 people living in mud-thatched, concrete and tiled houses. Most are agricultural laborers with no drinking facility in the area. The inhabitants of this village were drawing water from a nearby, polluted lake. Now, thanks to the generosity of J. Haning and other donors of The Water Project, these same people are benefiting from safe drinking water.

The last well dedication had a minor installation problem that was quickly resolved. However, after experiencing the first mishap dedicating over 200 wells, this village’s bore well was pumped with eager anticipation, praising God when water flowed freely. The people were excited to begin using their new source of clean water.

(Please note, pictures below are small due to limited internet access in India currently.  We will update as able.)

Project Type

Abundant water is often right under our feet! Beneath the Earth’s surface, rivers called aquifers flow through layers of sediment and rock, providing a constant supply of safe water. For borehole wells, we drill deep into the earth, allowing us to access this water which is naturally filtered and protected from sources of contamination at the surface level. First, we decide where to drill by surveying the area and determining where aquifers are likely to sit. To reach the underground water, our drill rigs plunge through meters (sometimes even hundreds of meters!) of soil, silt, rock, and more. Once the drill finds water, we build a well platform and attach a hand pump. If all goes as planned, the community is left with a safe, closed water source providing around five gallons of water per minute! Learn more here!
