A new well is being constructed for the Alpha Orphan Care and Vocational Training Center near Kakamega, Kenya. This well will serve vulnerable children, a vocation school and the surrounding community.
Our implementer in the field filed this initial report (edited for clarity):
This group supports orphans
and vulnerable children in the community of Khwisero East and has 76 trained
community health workers. Each health worker takes care of 15 children. The school runs vocational training for the same children in tailoring.
Population
Currently they are supporting 100 children on a daily basis who come to learn different
skills.
Current water source
They currently have to hire somebody to get water from a source of unknown quality over 5km from Alpha.
The water is used for poultry keeping, bee keeping, and dairy keeping but is not safe for human consumption.
Project
Beneficiaries
The orphans themselves plus the income
generating activities and the community in general that has a population of
1,500. The proposed well will be situated near a market place that does not currently have water to serve
the community.
WATSAN
They have a committee on healththat will oversee the water project or the
organization.
