Community Profile

Construction  is complete on the Butenje Primary School Well

This community is located in the Shiambitsi Sub. Location in Western Kenya, about 28km Kakamega.

The water project serves about 980 students and a total of 1,900 people in the surrounding area. A water committee consisting of 6 men and 6 women has been formed and the community has contributed about $300USD to acquire surveys and permits for the new well.
The previous water source is an unprotected spring about 7 km from the community. The water quality was very poor.

We're just getting started, check back soon!

Project Type

A borehole well reaches clean water stored deep underground. We drill down through soil and rock to groundwater that natural layers have already filtered, then build a platform and fit a handpump so families can draw water up close to home. It is a safe, protected source that replaces long walks to open water, and with your partnership it is cared for long after it is installed.
