Recently, our team in Kenya selected the specific site for this school well project.
The Matende Girls Secondary School is located near Kakamega, Kenya in Western Province. This school serves hundreds of students, but today lacks access to clean, safe water.
Currently the girls draw water from a local stream. When it does rain, the school also collect some rain in the tank pictured below. These sources are neither adequate or safe.
But good news is ahead for Matende! We have begun the mobilization and construction phases of this water project.
Monies have been wired to our field partners and they will begin work soon. The first phase of the project will include sanitation and hygiene training and discussions with the school's staff regarding long term care and maintenance of the well. These initial steps are critical to ensuring the water project at Matende lasts a very long time.
After that is completed, the well crew will begin digging.
We will update this page with GPS coordinates, regular photo updates and stories about the project as they come in.
Thanks again for being part of this incredible work!
Our implementing reported from the dedication ceremony...(unedited)
"The Headmistress of Matende secondary school was very
pleased for the water project for providing water for the school. She also
appreciated Bridge Water Project for the great support towards the school
water. She said the water will help the students and the neighbouring primary school.
They had been suffering very much looking for water but now they are safe and the
school has improved its sanitation and the students hygiene has gone up."
