This project is part of Bridge Water Project's program in Western Kenya. What follows is direct from them:
PROPOSED PROJECT
The Proposed Enyapora Community Well Water Project Rehab is a hand dug well which was done by KEFINCO in the year 1989. The well was fitted a pump. The pump served upto 2010 and got spoilt and eventually and could not be repaired since the Indian Mark II spare parts are not available locally. Since then, the community members have had to go back and get water from an unprotected Nyapola stream. Members of this community have expressed their wish of rehabilitating the well by installing an Affridev pump so as to help them access quality and safe water for their domestic use.
CURRENT WATER SOURCE
The community currently gets water from Nyapola spring which 2k away and dries up during the dry spells and the water is not protected.
POPULATION
The community has a population of 70 households and each household has approximately seven people.
HYGIENE AND SANITATION
The hygiene and sanitation of this community is good since most of the households have latrines and compost pits. No hand washing points were noted in any of the homesteads.
PROJECT BENEFICIARIES
If the project is rehabilitated it will benefit the entire Enyapola community.
ASSESSING THE NEED
The Bridge Water Project has assessed and seen that there’s need to rehabilitate the well so that the community can have access to clean water for their domestic use. The community also needs a hygiene and sanitation workshop to help them improve on their hygiene and sanitation.
WATER COMMITTEE
Bridge Water Project will ensure that a water committee is formed before the full implementation of the project.
