Community Profile

The water project at Usho is part of our partner's program in South Sudan.

Usho is a rural village of more than 500 people.  Before the completion of this water project, the people of Usho would travel 2 miles to draw water from an unprotected river.  Village members attributed various health issues to drinking and gathering the water and its location including diarrhea and malaria.  Many of the village members noted how wonderful it will be to have all of those hours available for investment in their own community rather than walking to fetch water.

How will this new well effect life in the village?  The people of the community can tell us best:

Yoma Justin, a 25 year old mother of 3 says, "We have been dealing with various cases of sicknesses from drinking water from the river. We are thankful now to have a clean water source."

June Martin, a 21 year old mother of 2 says, "Clean water will result in good health for us now. Not having to walk a long distance to the river, all I can say is thank you for helping us with clean water close to our homes."

What potential will be unlocked in this community now that clean water is available?  Thank you for your help!

We're just getting started, check back soon!

Project Type

A borehole well reaches clean water stored deep underground. We drill down through soil and rock to groundwater that natural layers have already filtered, then build a platform and fit a handpump so families can draw water up close to home. It is a safe, protected source that replaces long walks to open water, and with your partnership it is cared for long after it is installed.
